Welcome

A house with history, right by the river

Stay in one of our comfortable rooms — most of them with a view of the Rhine — and enjoy a kitchen that guests travel well beyond the region to visit.

Cycle, walk or run straight from our front door through the Lower Rhine water meadows, a protected landscape. After a trade fair in Cologne or Düsseldorf you will reach us easily — and unwind afterwards in our beer garden.

Around the Vater Rhein

In the heart of Stürzelberg

Our village belongs to the town of Dormagen in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district, and makes a good base for visitors coming to Düsseldorf or Cologne.

Whether as a starting point for cultural trips into the Rhine-Ruhr region or as a stop for cyclists along the Kaiserroute, you are in the right place. The medieval customs fortress of Zons, about 3 km away, with its beautifully preserved old town, is well worth a visit.

Frequently asked questions

The answers guests ask for most often — about staying, eating and celebrating at the „Vater Rhein”.

When is the inn open?
The inn is open Monday to Saturday from 4 pm, and the kitchen serves from 5 pm to 9 pm. Wednesday and Sunday are our closing days — the restaurant and kitchen stay shut. Hotel guests can still stay with us on those days.
What does a room at the Hotel-Gasthof „Vater Rhein” cost?
A single room starts at €105 per night and a double room at €150 per night, each including a generous breakfast. We are happy to quote trade fair and corporate rates on request.
Do the rooms have a view of the Rhine?
Yes. Our family-run house has 17 comfortably furnished rooms, most of them with a view of the Rhine. Some rooms also have a balcony.
How are the rooms equipped?
Every room has a shower or bath, WC, hairdryer and cable TV. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the house, and some rooms have a balcony. We are a non-smoking house. A generous breakfast is included in your stay.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is possible from 3 pm, and check-out is until 10 am. If you would like to arrive earlier or leave later, just ask — we can usually find a way.
Are pets allowed?
Unfortunately pets are not permitted in any of our rooms.
How many guests do the banquet rooms hold?
Our banquet rooms seat 20 to 100 guests — from a relaxed brunch through family and corporate celebrations to a wedding with music and dancing. We are glad to put together buffet and menu suggestions on request.
Is there a beer garden?
Yes. When the weather is kind in summer, our beer garden is the place to relax over a cold beer or a chilled glass of white wine.
What kind of food does the restaurant serve?
We cook regional German food, led by the seasons — from hearty and rustic to refined. Seasonal specials complement the menu: white asparagus, matjes herring, chanterelles, mussels and fresh fish. We also put together cold and hot buffets and set menus to your own ideas.
Where is the hotel, and how far is Zons?
We are at Oberstraße 4, in the heart of Dormagen-Stürzelberg, right by the Rhine and on the village square. The medieval customs fortress of Zons, with its well-preserved old town, is about 3 km away. Düsseldorf and Cologne are easily reached — ideal after a trade fair.
Is there a bowling lane?
Yes, the house has its own bowling lane. It goes well with dinner — a popular evening for families, clubs and colleagues.
Which payment methods do you accept?
We accept EC card as well as Visa and Mastercard.
Who runs the Hotel-Gasthof „Vater Rhein”?
The house is run by the Remmer family; the innkeeper is Franz-Josef Remmer. For generations the building housed the village post office, and until the 1960s farming was part of the business too. Hospitality has always been its dominant side.
We look forward to seeing you
